Shakuhachi

Tajima Ken-ichi began playing the shakuhachi at the age of 12, studying under his father, Tajima Tadashi. In 2006, he graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts Department of Traditional Japanese Music with a degree in shakuhachi performance. In 2014, he won the 69th Japan Arts Festival New Artist Award for his first recital. He has given numerous performances throughout Japan and abroad focusing on classical Japanese music. He also collaborates in various musical genres, gives special lectures on shakuhachi at educational institutions such as Tokyo University of the Arts and Rissho University, and various events, and is active in many other fields, including outreach, concert planning, as well as writing, directing, and music directing for stage and musical theater. He is a member of The Shakuhachi 5, JSPN (Japan Shakuhachi Professional-Players Network) and the Japan Sankyoku Association.
