Aoki Horomasa (Aoki Kotarō) was born May 1, 1899 in Mito City. He studied Kinko-ryū shakuhachi under Oshimoto Kinzan and Yamaguchi Shirō and became a certified teacher in 1926. He was president of the Sankyoku Bungei Sogenkai and was active as a performer and teacher for more than 50 years.
