Shakuhachi
Born in Yamato, Kanagawa Prefecture on December 16, 1994, Hasegawa Shōzan studied shakuhachi under Fujiwara Dōzan. He graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts and completed the Graduate School of Music at the same university. While at the Graduate School of Music, he studied the first Nakao Tozan's compilation of "Violin Musical Notation" and continues to research and collect music notation. He was winner of the Doseikai Award and the Grand Prize in the Japanese Instruments category at the 28th Ichikawa City Cultural Promotion Foundation New Performer Competition, and a scholarship recipient of the Aoyama Music Foundation in 2016. He completed the Agency for Cultural Affairs' Domestic Training Program for Emerging Artists in 2018. He is a Master of the Tozan-ryū Shakuhachi Association (Public Interest Foundation), a member of the Tozan-ryū Dōzan-kai and the Japan Sankyoku Association. Hasegawa is currently a shakuhachi instructor at Hosei University Sankyoku Association.
