Born July 2, 1933 in Niigata Prefecture, Ishikawa Junpū (Ishikawa Kiichi) studied Kinko-ryū shakuhachi under Ishiyama Sōgyoku (Chikuyū-sha) and Satō Seibi. In 1963, he received his Shihan (masters license) from Chikuyū-sha. He was head of the Bifū-kai Niigata branch.
