Born October 31, 1924 in Asahikawa, Hokkaido, Ogawa Itsurei (Ogawa Nagatoshi) studied Itsudō-ha Kinko-ryū shakuhachi under Ikeda Itsuren and Hashimoto Itsushō. He started teaching in 1966 and belonged to the Shakuhachi Itsuren-kai.
